After reading Coyne's reasoning I wonder if he has a serious memory problem. Chretien was no democrat, he consolidated power ruthlessly and was obviously not the best at keeping track of the public's money be it HRDC grants or Sponsorship cash. Martin, in his minority actually ignored a lost confidence vote and only won his do-over the following week by buying the vote of Belinda Stronach with the ministry of complex files. Coyne specifically mentions Emerson's floor crossing but must think, apparently, that Emerson was worse compared to Stronach's and Stronach's timing.

Are the Conservatives running an open and transparent government that empowers MPs and ministers? Gawd no, but if Coyne thinks voting Liberal will change things he must believe the leopard can change his spots. The Liberals have no plans to reform the Senate, something Coyne wants, and will act exactly as they have in the past regarding committees and information sharing.
