Col. Russell Williams, the former commander of CFB Trenton, now faces 82 counts of breaking and entering

Col. Russell Williams, the former commander of CFB Trenton charged with killing two women and sexually assaulting others, now faces 82 counts of breaking and entering.

Ontario Provincial Police charged the army colonel Thursday morning after a joint investigation with Ottawa and Belleville police departments, OPP officers in Tweed, Ont., and the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service.

Williams, 46, has been charged with 46 counts of break-and-enter in Tweed, 34 in Ottawa and two in Belleville.

This story leaves me close to speechless. I suspect that it has disturbed many women's sleep these last few months. It seems so far beyond anything most people would ever expect or ever be able to protect themselves against. Where does one put that thought?

Muse over this.

"Cpl. Brendan Anthony Downey, born in Montreal and raised in Toronto, was found dead in his room about 4:15 a.m. on a Thursday. The death was very suspicious. The room was sealed off immediately and the military’s National Investigation Service was called in."

Be advised that the CFNIS closed my son AFMP Cpl. Brendan Downey's case file in October,2009 without further misleading or defamatory press releases.

The CF Press Releases to-date have falsified Brendan's age, hometown, time of death and reason for enlisting, and have withheld the Dubai, UAE location of Camp Mirage and any physical or behavioral evidence.

The FINAL REPORT of their secretive, prolonged and misdirected investigation confirmed that the CFNIS lacks the training, experience or skill to investigate serious crimes such as rape, murder or drug trafficking. Our family has dubbed the CFNIS Powerpoint Presentation to Brendan's mother, father, sister and brother on Fri/02Oct09 as the "KINDERGARTEN REPORT."

Why do "progressives" like yourself highlight "military" crimes.

Why not crimes in your own sinkhole called Toronto?

The culture war has already begun.

It started a long, long time ago.

Shame on you Morton.

To Anon3: What on earth would lead you to call Col Williams' case "a military crime"? That's your paranoia talking.

For most women, this is an all-too-recognizable crime, although much much more extreme than the everyday sex assault many women know and even more fear. I'm not prejudging the causes -- I wish we could know what sent Williams off the rails, but we may never. It certainly didn't have to be his military background. We have, sadly, far too many examples of civilians capable of the same.

For heaven's sake: two women are dead, and a number of others permanently traumatized. Could you check your ideological defensiveness at the door?

This happens daily in Toronto but Morton nor his progressive friends but it all over their blogs or papers.
Progressives hate the military and that's the only reason they do it.
Again, people in Toronto are killed in 2's and 3's including men women and children yet nothing but silence from Morton or his "progressive" friend.
In Morton's world, there would be no more wars if there was a Global Government or New World Order.
Morton and all his "progressive" friends are really Marxists with a little liking for Super Capitalism.

@ Anon - if you are that disappointed in the choices Morton chooses to highlight or comment on, there are plenty of other blogs for you to read. This isn't a news service, and the story about Col. Williams is big news indeed.
(on a side note, how 46 break-ins could occur in Tweed without anyone catching on is truly astounding. The actual village of Tweed only has maybe 2000 residents... w/ probably and equal number in the surrounding township.)
