Harper digs in over Afghan documents

I suspect this is mere huffing and puffing -- there'll be a compromise:

OTTAWA—Prime Minister Stephen Harper hinted Wednesday he was prepared to go to an election if necessary to prevent the release of all uncensored Afghan prisoner documents to the House of Commons as directed by Speaker Peter Milliken.

“It’s hard to take it really any other way,” NDP Leader Jack Layton told reporters after listening to what he took to be an implied threat from Harper during question period.

Harper’s comments added to signals from the Conservative government that it plans to dig in it heels on the release of Afghan prisoner documents.

Harper told MPs the survival of his minority government always depends on the “confidence” of the House, suggesting if the opposition parties don’t like what they see they can always have a vote of non-confidence and go to the voters.

You know, the response if Harper were to rob a liquor store wouldn't be to hold an election - it would be to toss him in jail.

Having the confidence of Parliament doesn't give him immunity. Dissolving Parliament is not the right response to his defiance of it. Put him in jail.
