Maurice Richard, Lady Gaga or John Tory for Mayor?

Remember the ultimately pointless children's game where imaginary hockey (or football or baseball etc) teams are created with players of the past and present. Who would win? The 1964 Leafs or the 1972 Bruins or today's Penguins? Fun for children with a historical bent -- but not a productive use of time for grown-ups.

Today's radio is full of speculation about who might run for Mayor of Toronto and who could win among the imagined candidates. Of course, such candidates are untried by current battle and, as we have all seen, someone who looks very plausible as a candidate can collapse quickly in a race.
Let's focus on who is actually running -- if new candidates join, well, they can be considered then.

CFRB has been relentlessly promoting Ford for mayor and Tory thinks he can come in and clean up on the general dislike of Ford.

It would help to remember Tory's achievements. There was the CFL and many football fans were angry at him with his handling of the League.

There were his back room days at the Conservative HQ during the Campbell election and the disparaging ad about Jean Chretien. He was the one who approved that ad and brought the Conservatives down to 2 seats in the House.

He lost a provincial election and his own seat because of controversial politics--faith funding for schools. Moreover, when he lost, he hung around for too long and didn't realise he was further damaging the party. That was the mistake Ernie Eves made while waiting for a Senate seat to come his way.

Then Tory went to CFRB, 11th in the ratings of the 21 Toronto area radio stations. Have you heard this guy drone on and on to the point of your ears starting to bleed? God help city council if he ever becomes mayor. Poor guy doesn't know when to STOP talking!

And he wants to be MAYOR? Not with the anti-Conservative and anti-Tory feelings that are floating around right now.
