Note the two killed were on remand and had not been convicted of anything. Now, of course, they will never be tried.
I am somewhat surprised this story hasn't been bigger news:
QUEBEC — Police and provincial public safety officials are investigating what sparked a violent outburst at a Quebec City jail that left two people dead and six injured.
The incident involving 14 inmates began with an altercation Wednesday night in a wing of the Centre de detention de Quebec, which is reserved for accused who have not yet been sentenced.
...
Police identified the victims as Denis Ampleman, 45, and Eric Adamson Yaouvi, 20.
Ampleman was arrested earlier this week and charged with breaking and entering and stealing. Adamson was facing charges of intimidation.
The cause of their death is not yet known.
