Thomson bows out of Toronto mayoral race, backs Smitherman
I suppose it was inevitable that the race would thin.
I'm a little puzzled at Thomson going to Smitherman -- they are hardly eye to eye on policy.
All polls have shown Rossi is the overwhelming second choice of most Thomson supporters. I can't see Thomson's voters moving to Smitherman in a block.
Rossi is the fiscally prudent candidate who makes sense -- Thomson makes a much better match with Rossi than Smitherman. I expect the bulk of her support will go to Rossi. But where will the rest go?
I can see some movement of Thomson supporters to Ford. It may be that Smitherman will gain little here.

It was believed that she would have backed Rossi when she stepped down. This must have been leaked much to her displeasure; So she switched.
The endorsement is virtually meaningless since as you suggest the public vote is not a "block of delegates".
Her name will still appear on the ballot so she might still get 1%.
Thompson was right to get out and Rossi would be smart to clear the way too. Both are also-rans and have been since Day 1. Pantelone has another week or two to show he has momentum or watch Smitherman stumble. Otherwise, the decks need to be cleared for a two-way contest between Ford and whatever other candidate is left standing.
If someone in the Rossi campaign leaked that false story about Thomson its just more proof that his campaign is imploding. What a stupid leak! Almost as dumb as the underground highway. Almost as dumb as those television ads. How the hell does he go from running a solid campaign to whatever you call what he's been doing in the last few weeks?
Anon 5:49,
Its called Warren Kinsella
Rossi is an also ran, horrible campaign, horrible choices.
I understand you're running for office. Stay clear of Kinsella.
Her "block", if you want to call it will be scattered. Watch Ford do well in the next poll.
