Doug Ford’s dream waterfront? Ferris wheel, monorail and a boat-in hotel

http://bit.ly/nmsVQS

"Asked how the city would finance the redevelopment, Ford said private sector investment would cover everything including the roads and other infrastructure. The Ford administration is also seeking billions in private investment to fund the Sheppard subway line."

Errh, well, not very likely. Perhaps if the City gives up vast areas of land for condo development on the basis of road building but otherwise there is simply no way private investment will build roads and infrastructure. In fairness, almost no one -- including the most free-market "leave me alone" "I hate government" types -- think roads will be built by private investment except for toll-roads.

The proposed development isn't my cup of tea but it certainly is a legitimate attempt and just because I'm not into Ferris Wheels, so what! But it won't be funded privately any more than the Sheppard Subway will. It will end up being tax dollars.

Maybe the old - Toronto Needs a Casino - will come up and that is how they will fund it
