Your criticisms of Harper (who I voted for) could be applied in the same manner: "What did he do for anyone besides big business?". Harper also made most of his money through government taxes.
Big Business VS the humanistic side is the yin-yang of politics, for good or bad. He was a very effective public speaker, and certainly the 2011 NDP breakthrough was his legacy and moment of greatness. Perhaps sensing that the end of his life was near during that campaign, gave it his all.
