Liberal Statement on the passing Jack Layton

TORONTO – Liberal Leader Bob Rae made the following statement today on the death of NDP Leader Jack Layton:

"Like all Canadians, Arlene and I are deeply saddened by the death of Jack Layton.  He was a friend of ours for many years, and despite our political differences his decency, good humour and extraordinary resilience earned our deep admiration.  We remained friends throughout our political lives.

On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I express our deep condolences to Olivia and Jack's family, as well as to his colleagues and friends in the New Democratic Party.  He leaves a powerful legacy of a commitment to social justice in his work in Toronto as a city councillor and as a national leader.

Peace and comfort to all.  When David Lewis passed away Stanley Knowles ended his eulogy with the words "shalom chaver, shalom".  Peace, brother, peace."

Karl Marx and his ideology is responsible for millions of deaths.

Are we to celebrate 'coiali justice" when it has caused the deaths of millions?

I'll leave you with a few famous quotes.

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."

Thomas Jefferson

"Sometimes it is said that man cannot be trusted with the government of himself. Can he, then be trusted with the government of others? Or have we found angels in the form of kings to govern him? Let history answer this question."

Thomas Jefferson

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

Thomas Jefferson

Mr Layton would have been a great leader in Cuba, Vietnam, China or Venezuela.

But here in Canada, a once FREE AND PROUD country has been reduced to Marxism.

It's a shame but Revolution is just around the corner.

Individual rights trump Marxism all day long.

"Anonymous you're just a radical jerk"

hey Rayburn , how am I the radical?

Because I go to work everyday and I'm not an agent of the government?

What do you do for a living?

Anonymous I'm a private business owner and don't equate my independence with stale talking points.

I would bet my house(300 grand) that you don't work in the private sector and if you do, you rely on governmnet grants to survive.

Nobody who owns a business and actually works for a living would be partt of a party who just pisses hat money away to their friends in special interest groups.

Give me a break buddy.

The NDP is for hardcore University leftists, union radicals and other communist ideologues living off the dole.

Communism, Karl Marx, and small business owner cannot belong in the same logical sentence.

(other) Anon:

don't be such a moron.

As Michael Valpy -- someone who knows a thing or two about politics, and even ran for the NDP himself at one point -- observed today, he's hardly a communist:

"Jack Layton more probably fit[s] the label of Red Tory than socialist."

or are you so far gone you consider people like Joe Clark and Mulroney as Marxists or soul-mates to genocidal dictators, too? what a loon.

I wouldn't be so dumb to bet your house. No govt grants, no govt job. Just not a whackaloon like you are appearing to be.

300K, not much of a "house" in my parts.
