Thoughts on being hacked

As many of you know I was recently hacked.

The hacker -- obviously a bot of some sort -- was quite clever.

The phony posts were posted and then immediately deleted. The result was that I did not even know about the posts although people following me got them. In fact, I only learned of the hacking because people sent me e-mails telling me I was sending out spam.

Fortunately the phony posts were obviously phony. I am hardly going to start sending out ways to "make money from home".

But what is the posts were more subtle?

What if the posts were suggesting I was, say, supporting the Progressive Conservatives in the upcoming Ontario election, or that I had become a Muslim (both perfectly proper and legitimate things which, as it happens, are not true). I might never know of the posts, because people would not immediately see them as spam; yes I might get some positive posts from brothers and sister in Islam but I would likely see them as just friendly comments and as for the PC's, well, again if they said nice things I doubt it would raise an immediate fire alarm.

The fact is, if you are hacked and it isn't obvious that you are hacked you may never know and your public face may change subtly without you realizing it... .
