Statutory Interpretation

R. v. Montague, 2014 ONCA 439:

[18]   The Supreme Court of Canada most recently re-stated the modern approach to statutory interpretation in Marine Services International Ltd. v. Ryan Estate, 2013 SCC 44, [2013] 3 S.C.R. 53, at para. 77, as follows:

Under the modern approach to statutory interpretation, "the words of an Act are to be read in their entire context and in their grammatical and ordinary sense harmoniously with the scheme of the Act, the object of the Act, and the intention of Parliament" [references omitted].
