Khadr appealed; around the time for Friday cocktails

Have you noticed how timing of actions seems to vary depending on the expected public reaction? Friday afternoon?

OTTAWA — The Harper government is appealing a court order in the Omar Khadr case. Officials confirmed today that Ottawa has filed an appeal of a Federal Court ruling that it seek the return of Mr. Khadr from the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo, Cuba.

No surprise they would do that...if they were in oppostion they'd be crying foul.

But the Cons/Reformatories are good at deflecting attention from themselves...I think it's time the Libs put the Cons in their place and explained the reality.

I want to see the government take some action on Khadr but also hope they win in the appellate courts. I'm not comfortable with some of the positive rights jurisprudence that has emerged from the courts in recent year--particularly the Health Services case regarding collective bargaining, and this latest decision of the federal court.

I'd like to see "rights" interpreted as they should be--as negative injunctions against state action except where specifically provided for otherwise.

Then again thats just my small l liberal view.
